Philodendron birkinRegular price $23.95 Save $-23.95
DESCRIPTION: Ornamental plant with dark green heart shaped glossy leaves which start off green and gradually develop variegation as leaves grow. Brighter light may increase colour contrast also. Usually stays compact.
USE IN: Attractive indoor plant; will grow in subtropical gardens as shaded underplanting.
PLANTING: Needs a warm frost-free position, avoid direct hot sunlight. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks.
CARE: For best results provide plenty of bright, filtered light. Protect from cold and keep moist during hot periods, letting it dry out a little between so it's not overwatered. Philodendrons thrive in humid conditions, mist regularly.
Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring and a liquid based fertiliser every 2-4 weeks during the warmer months, take care to dilute your solution to half the recommended dose to avoid burn. For indoor plants - wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth if you notice them collecting dust, this will refresh the foliage to its usual glossy finish. Re-pot container plants at the beginning of spring.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 50cm-1m H x 50cm W.
Epipremnum aureum (Pothos/Devil's Ivy) 130mmRegular price $15.95 Save $-15.95
Fast growing, easy care and low light. What’s not to love?! The devil’s ivy is one of the best hanging plants and the perfect gift for that black-thumbed mate. Pop him up on a shelf so you can watch him trail down and down and down.
Outdoors, pothos can be grown in shade to partial shade. Indoors, pothos prefers bright but indirect light. Variegated plants sometimes lose their leaf pattern and revert to all-green plants if they don't get enough light; moving them to brighter conditions usually restores the variegation. Suddenly paler-looking leaves mean the plant is getting too much sun.
Pothos like to have their soil dry out completely between waterings. If left continually in damp soil, the roots will rot. Black spots on the leaves and the sudden collapse of the plant indicate the soil has been kept too wet. Let the plant tell you when to water—when it starts to droop, it needs a good drink. However, don’t wait until the leaves start to shrivel or you will lose some leaves. Dry, brown edges mean the plant was kept dry too long.
Pothos plants thrive in ordinary, well-draining potting soil, preferably with a slightly acidic pH. You can also grow your pothos in water which is a easy no fuss way to enjoy this gorgeos trailing plant.
While pothos plants are an easy to care for houseplant, you do need to be aware that they are poisonous. Though rarely fatal, the plant can cause irritation and vomiting if ingested due to the fact that it contains calcium oxalates. Even the sap from the plant may cause highly sensitive people to break out in a rash. It is considered toxic to cats, dogs and children, but as mentioned, it normally will make them very sick but will not be fatal
